Flood and landslides
Following torrential rain in early August of 2014, Nepal suffered flood and landslides in the Tarai region. A total of 25 districts were inundated by the flood. According to the Home Ministry, almost 300 people lost their lives while thousands of families were displaced. Heifer supported 15,814 families for immediate relief and economic recovery with a total fund of USD 102,680.
Highlights
- Coordination with District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRC) in Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Surkhet and Sindhuli for immediate relief support and participation in DDRC meeting for formulation of relief support plan.
- Assisted victim families with direct support in shelter, agriculture input, livestock sheds and vet medicines, fodder/forage and drinking water.
- Produced community based disaster risk management training manual to train project staff and Heifer’s beneficiaries on disaster preparedness and management.
