Heifer signed MoU with UKaid Sakchyam for Value Chain Financing
August 4, Kathmandu - Heifer International Nepal signed a MoU with UKaid Sakchyam to enhance access to finance for smallholder farmers involved in different agricultural value chains though value chain financing (VCF).
Heifer Nepal has been working closely with more than 230,000 farmers organized under 200+ cooperatives involved in different agricultural value chains with specific focus on Goat, Dairy and Vegetables. Remarkable achievement has been made in capacity strengthening of farmers’ institutions, increasing production and productivity, and developing market linkages. However, challenges in access to finance for value chain actors involved at different stages remains. VCF involves meeting financing needs of different stakeholders i.e. farmers, traders, processors etc. involved at different stages of a value chain.
In this context, Heifer International Nepal has entered into a partnership with Sakchyam, UKaid funded access to finance program which works with public and private sectors to leverage access and facilitate financial sector development in Nepal for small and medium enterprises and for poor people. This partnership is expected to explore ways on how Heifer and Heifer facilitated cooperatives and value chain actors can be linked with Sakchyam, its partner banks and financial institutions, ensuring all the value chain stakeholders have access to finance in effective and efficient manner. This collaborative effort intends to complement one another in areas of mutual interest in general, and to increase access to finance in goat, dairy, and vegetable value chains, in particular.
