Job Description
- Project Background:
Heifer Project Nepal (HPN) is implementing a project entitled “BUILDING RESILIENCE THROUGH CLIMATE-SMART LIVESTOCK FARMING IN WESTERN NEPAL” funded by GIZ/GRAPE. The project will promote climate-smart livestock (CSL) farming measures for improving and transforming existing goat and dairy farming practices to ensure resilient farm enterprises.
HPN aims to thoroughly document climate-resilient livestock practices that have demonstrated clear benefits and success in various contexts. By capturing these effective strategies and success stories, the intention is to create a replicable model that can be applied across all projects implemented by Heifer. This model will serve as a blueprint for promoting climate-resilient livestock production, ensuring that proven practices are consistently integrated to enhance the sustainability and resilience of livestock farming in the face of climate change.
In this connection, HPN is seeking an individual consultant to carry out study on effectiveness of various measures that has been adopted to minimize the effect of climate change and documentation of best practices
- Scope of Work.
S.N. | Task |
1 | The consultant shall assess farmers’ understanding of climate-resilient livestock practices and provide recommendations to implementing partners to ensure the sustainability of these practices. |
2 | The consultant will assess the climate resilient practices adopted by farmers in the GRAPE project areas of Surkhet, Dailekh, Kailali, Dadeldhura, and Doti district. |
3 | The consultant shall evaluate the effectiveness of climate-resilient practices adopted by farmers and assess their impact on mitigating the effects of climate change. |
4 | The consultant shall document the best practices adopted by farmers that can be attributed to the project. |
5 | Prepare 5-7 success stories adhering to the guidelines provided by HPN with high quality photographs. |
- Expected outputs/deliverables. a. Key findings and recommendations that are in line with above mentioned task. b. The consultant is expected to submit the following:
- Inception report: submit within 1 week of signing the contract.
- Draft report and presentation: submit within 4 weeks of signing the contract.
- Final report: submit within 7 days after the submission of draft report for approval.
- An electronic version of the final report, data, information, and relevant pictures.
- Timeline:
The study is expected to complete in 5 weeks from signing of the contract. The consultant shall provide detail timeline of works to be accomplished as per the contract.
- Required competency / eligibility
- At least Bachelor’s degree in animal science, Veterinary Science, environment science or other relevant subjects.
- At least 15 years of working experience in livestock extension, climate change, environment conservation sector.
- Priority will be given to the consultant with previous experience of work in livestock and climate change sector
All the interested consulting individuals should submit their proposals with the following information.
- Technical proposal (not exceeding 6 pages)
- A detailed methodology on how the assignment will be conducted, including both quantitative and qualitative data collection approaches, data collection methods and tools to use, fieldwork procedures, quality control practices, and data processing and analysis.
- A clear and comprehensive work plan (draft) with major activities and time schedule
- Organizational capacity statement, including past experiences and performed activities related to the theme of the study.
- At least three references for which similar assignments were undertaken with contact information for each one.
