Background and Journey:
After years of trial and error with different jobs, Sujana Subedi Dahal and Nilhari Dahal have finally found stability running a cow farm in Gaiyatar, Sindhuli, where they’ve been working for the past 9 years. Their small family of four- Sujana, Nilhari, their daughter, and son have endured many challenges together. Nilhari, after completing his 12th grade, ventured into poultry farming, influenced by his friends. Unfortunately, this led to losses rather than profits. He then attempted to go abroad not just once but twice, but both efforts fell through. Undeterred, Nilhari and Sujana turned to buffalo farming, only to find that the high expenses and the long wait before selling the buffaloes made it a poor investment. Finally, when nothing else seemed to work, they turned to raising cows, starting with a single Jersey cow. They had previously kept away from cow farming and the milk business, believing the market was too small and not recognizing its potential. However, with no stable source of income, prior experience, and no one to offer advice, they took a leap of faith. Over time, they expanded their herd and established Dahal Dairy Farm, though the early days were challenging with minimal return on their investment and effort.

Heifer Intervention:
Sujana and Nilhari were among the fortunate recipients of Holstein cows from Heifer Korea. Along with the cows, they received invaluable training and knowledge from Heifer about essential dairy farming techniques, including proper milking, barn hygiene, disease detection, and feeding methods, which significantly improved their efficiency. By applying these techniques, they saw a significant increase in milk production and profits. They also embraced new technologies, becoming the first in their community to use milking machines, which further streamlined their farm operations.

Future Aspiration and Advises:
Nilhari, who has now given up on the idea of going abroad believes it’s possible to earn a good income in Nepal despite setbacks. Sujana shares the same sentiment, noting that earning USD 375-455 a month while staying with their families is feasible. Since receiving the cow, they have fully committed to its care, showing their dedication to achieving a better future. The Holstein cow is expected to calve in Magh, and they’re hopeful. Inspired by local success with Holstein milk, they plan to expand their herd.

Final Thoughts:
Their journey from uncertainty to success is a true reflection of resilience and determination. Sujana and Nilhari’s story serves as an inspiration to their community, proving that with hope, hard work, and the right support, anything is possible.
