Job Description
Background
Heifer International Nepal is developing a Signature Program “The Milky Way Nepal” in collaboration with Heifer Korea including the donation of high-quality bulls and heifers, technical collaboration, and the establishment of a Model Dairy Village to demonstrate improved practices and technologies. Heifer has received initial positive feedback for this effort from Korean government officials, dairy coops and other stakeholders which would include the donation of 101 heifers, 20 superior bulls (Holstein Friesian and Jersey), and semen to impregnate the donated heifers. The bulls will be used to improve Nepal’s dairy breeds through breeding centers managed by the Government of Nepal; the heifers will form the basis for a Model Dairy Village with an established nucleus dairy herd and a genetic improvement program capable of providing all breeding bulls required for the national breeding center. Heifer Nepal will facilitate the partnership and establish and manage the Model Dairy Village in partnership with local communities, government, cooperatives, the national dairy association and private dairy companies. Heifer Nepal has identified the site (Kamalamai Municipality, Sindhuli) for the Model Dairy Village in consultation with local authorities and coops.
The initiative has envisioned three major components:
- Modern dairy animal farming (technology adoption in housing, feeding, breeding, health care and hygienic production; input supply management)
- National cattle herd genetic improvement (PPRS, Progeny testing, sexed semen production, embryo transfer technology)
- Boutique dairy (quality dairy products targeting high end consumers)
Scope of Work
- Conduct and facilitate Technical Training-GHP/Feeding Management /Fodder Production/Business Development
- Ensure quality of shed reconstruction /renovation
- Coordinate with local implementing partners and municipality
- Coordinate with Department of Livestock Service (DLS), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Ministry
- Ensure summer and perennial forage production and fodder plantation

- Forage development report
- Shed renovation and construction report
- Coordination meeting reports with DLS, NDDB, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development
Duration of Consultancy: 3 Months
Educational Qualifications and Experience:
Masters in Dairy Science/Animal Science/Veterinary Science with a minimum 5 years of work experience in relevant field.
