Job Description
- Project Background:
Heifer Project International Nepal (HPIN) is implementing a signature program “Milky Way- Transforming dairy sector of Nepal”. Under the initiatives, there is a plan for establishing Model Dairy Village cum Elite Nucleus herd of dairy cattle with support of high-quality heifers (HF) from Heifer Korea.
Out of the 80 Korean heifer distributed to 51 farm families in the Model Dairy Village at Kamalaimai Sindhuli, 74 are alive, 3 have already calved and remaining 71 will be calving from 3rd week of May till Mid of September. Due to the size and higher productivity of those calving cows, assistance and special care are required during pre, post and during calving period. Veterinary Expert having in depth knowledge on reproductive physiology/ gynecologist with profession skill in handling reproductive cases is needed as the number of technicians present in the field are grossly inadequate and it might be difficult for them to handle complicated cases in absence of expert.
Therefore, we are seeking to deploy an expert reproductive physiologist/ veterinarian in the field from third week of May till third week of September but intermittently during peak calving periods (might require 2 full months stay in the field during 4 months calving period).
- Scope of Work.

1 | Coordinate with field staff and be updated on the expected date of calving for each individuals. |
2 | Visit households where the cattle are approaching near to calving and orient farmers on the precautions and special care to be taken |
3 | Visit the households on the specified date of calving or once the farmers inform the field team that the cattle are approaching towards calving |
4 | Assist smooth pre and post calving of all cattle |
5 | Provide the field technicians the tips on better reproductive management (the technician should accompany the consultant during each household visit) |
6 | Handle infertility cases in dairy cattle |
7 | Act as resource person in a proposed events organized with government stakeholders |
- Timeline: The duration of assignment will be 2 months field stay spread over 4 months calving period starting from 3rd week of May till third week of September 2024.
- Expected outputs/deliverables: Detail report on the task accomplished, assistance provided during calving, technical backstopping to the technicians, advise to the farmers and troubleshooting tips during calving.
- Payment:
- The field lodging and food expense would be borne by HPIN.
- Travel expenses during first visit to site and last departure from the site will be borne by the project, whereas the cost of other travel should be borne by the consultant him/herself.
Requirements:
- BVSc and AH
- More than 20 years of working experience in the field of Reproductive Physiology
