Heifer Project Nepal (HPN) is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty and caring for the earth by providing livestock, education, and other resources to help poor families become self-reliant. Project Officer – Livestock Technology and One Health – Nos. 1
Project Location: Nawalpur Districts of Gandaki Province
The Project Officer – Livestock Technology and One Health, will be responsible for the implementation of the Jersey Valley Project field activities in the assigned project district under the close supervision of the Project Manager-Jersey Valley. The main functions include supporting dairy farmers in establishing Jersey Nucleus Herd and promoting the adoption of proven dairy technologies, mainly climate -smart good dairy husbandry practices. S/he will be responsible for developing the Jersey nucleus herds as well as the center of excellence for horizontal diffusion of technologies in major dairy pocket areas. S/he will provide diagnostic services, clinical care, and treatment for dairy animals while promoting Good Husbandry Practices (GHP) among dairy farmers in the project district. The officer will work with the Milky Way program team, local implementing partner, local and provincial government, private sectors, and international experts to improve dairy animal productivity, health, and welfare through scientific and evidence-based approaches. This role requires working closely with academic and research institutions in research and development and generating new knowledge in all domains of dairy development.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s or a master’s degree in veterinary science and Animal Husbandry from a recognized university, with a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a veterinarian or dairy clinician.
- Should have sound knowledge on animal breeding and database management
- Experience in diagnosing dairy animal diseases at the field level, based on history, signs, and symptoms, including sample collection and laboratory examination.
- In-depth technical knowledge and practical skills in treating dairy animals, ranging from minor to complex cases.
- Demonstrated experience in community mobilization, social capital development, institutional development, capacity building, training, smallholder farmers/rural SMEs/co-ops, and base of the pyramid consumers
- Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements
