Job Description

Background

Heifer Project International Nepal (HPIN) in collaboration with Heifer Korea, Department of Livestock Services (DLS), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) is implementing a signature program “Milky Way-Transforming Dairy Sector of Nepal”. The overall goal of the Milky Way Signature Program is to support 500,000 dairy farmers’ families in their pathway to achieve living income. It has envisioned three interlinked pathways to achieve the goal. Pathway 1 being led by HPIN and supported by DLS is working to establish a Model Dairy Village (MDV) as a “Center of Excellence and Learning” reinforcing the local dairy sector to make it more efficient, more profitable for smallholder dairy producers (particularly for women) and more respectful of the environment. It will also serve as resource center for high genetic worth HF dairy cattle and knowledge and technologies.

One of the major components of MDV is to establish Pedigree Performance Record of dairy animals reared at household level. Competent fresh veterinarian will be an appropriate professional to work as a Traineeship to provide support in maintenance of household level data recording of dairy animals in Model Dairy Village Sindhuli under Milky-Way Signature Program.

Scope of Work

The veterinarian as a traineeship shall accomplish, but not limited to the following scope of work:

  1. Coordinate with Milky Way team based in Sindhuli to get orientation on an overview of Milky Way project.
  2. Visit MDV project area to have better understanding on beneficiaries’ families, project geography, and landscape.
  3. Conduct a comprehensive reading of the record keeping booklet developed to be maintained at household level in MDV, contact with project team for your clear understanding.
  4. Build capacity of beneficiaries’ families in data recording, with regular follow up and backstopping.
  5. Ensure correct and timely data recording at household level through daily households visit and participation in monthly meetings.
  6. Regularly collect and compile household level data. Keep the data organized in the standard excel sheet.
  7. Submit the report on monthly basis and whenever it is needed, adhering to a specified format.

Duration: Three (3) months

Location: Kamalamai Municipality, Sindhuli

Requirement:

  1. At least bachelor’s degree in veterinary science and animal Husbandry. Fresh veterinarians are encouraged to apply.
  2. Willingness to extensively travel to rural areas and to work with a flexible schedule.
  3. Ability to work independently and in a team.
  4. Fluent in local language and English (both spoken and written)
  5. Excellent communication skills
  6. Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic mail (Microsoft office preferred), and internet.
  7. Able to effectively promote Heifer’s mission values, and objectives.
  8. Sensitivity in working with multiple cultures and beliefs, and to gender equity.

Deliverables:

  • Monthly technical progress report
  • Compiled data in a specified excel sheet on a monthly basis.
  • Final /quarterly progress report
  • Relevant photographs
